Welcome to Inspirational Learning Academy
The New Generation Education
“… the Inspiration Learning Academy seems like quite a positive innovation and, one would hope, the beginning of a trend toward a new, more humanistic approach to educating our children for life.” - Dan Millman, Author of Way of the Peaceful Warrior
www.PeacefulWarrior.com
“I applaud the Inspirational Learning Academy seizing the opportunity to participate in history's newest revolution: the learning revolution… Using their new methods of learning, they will be qualified to address the most important education issue of our time - education for life. This is a school with the right priorities.”
- Dr. Jeanette Vos, co-author of The Learning Revolution, the world's best selling book in the last decade. www.Learning-Revolution.com
As we move in an epoch of accelerating changes in the world around us, it is very important to educate our children and ourselves to live by a higher set of standards that include new principles, new values and new understanding of life. It is vital that we do this now!
The ILA is The New Generation Education model for children and young adults that places Real Life and Real Learning as first priority. You may be wondering if our approach is Montessori, Waldorf, Un-schooling, Sudbury, Indigo, or something similar to those. It is not. This is a new learning arena. Our values, principles, philosophy, and methods are different than those approaches because we are meeting modern social needs and preparing students for a future unlike we have ever known. We are committed to developing students unique potentials through a progressive approach called Potential Education.
We have asked many fundamental questions, which began the development of this educational model over 20 years ago in Europe. For example:
- Can happiness and health be learned? If so, how is it taught?
- Since learning begins in the womb, can we start learning then to be happy, creative, and healthy? How do we start that cycle of learning?
- If our environment is an integral part of our daily happiness and health, how can we teach respect for it and be a model for environmental stewardship?
- How do we use modern technology in a sustainable, non-destructive way?
- Are our old beliefs about life still working? If not, what should we believe now?
We have discovered through our work and research with thousands of people around the world that there are many similarities which we are going to share while we move into a new way of living. That’s a relief because it reminds us that we are not alone. We are all-powerful as individuals, especially, when we are gathered with others who share a common goal, a common vision.
We invite you to discover our vibrant approach to learning and to contact the ILA to discuss your needs as a parent, student, donor, education enthusiast or community partner.
Our Vision is of healthy, happy, and creative students and teachers empowered to make meaningful contributions to society through the unearthing of their unique potentials.
Our Mission is to provide for the innovative development of students’ positive potentials in preparation for society’s accelerated rate of personal and global change. To do this we educate students through the five key stages of development while applying natural methods of stimulating life-long health, happiness, and peace. We believe that all people are capable of very high levels of achievement when they are encouraged to focus on their unique potentials. By creating positive learning methods and opportunities, and through continual research, we support all people to establish an excellent foundation for developing their natural potentials and to make positive and fulfilling contributions to society. Our educational approach is challenging and progressive while geared towards developing both individual and community potentials through Project-based and Potential-based Learning.

ILA at a Glance
Origins: A group of education and health experts began developing and testing this approach in Europe in 1989 with a vision of creating greater peace, health, and happiness. Further research and development began at a New Zealand academy in 2000. This particular model began its American design in 2002. The Sedona ILA team was officially formed in March of 2007.
Who we are: We are a new model of education operating as a project under the International Humanities Center 501(c)(3). There are currently three full-time team members in Sedona, AZ with many local volunteers and supporters. We work closely with consultants and affiliates around the world to fulfill our mission.
What we’re doing now: We are planning an opening in Fall 2007. Due to the encouragement of the community and expressed interest from around the globe, we are rapidly building business relationships, enrolling students, training staff, and raising funds. Building cooperative relations is one of our priorities, both locally and globally. We plan to operate the project for 2 – 3 years while a permanent “Environmentally Sustainable” location is constructed.
Student body: Opening locally with over a dozen learners ages 5 through 14 and growing to 150 learners, ages 5 through 19, over 5 years.
Curriculum: Project-based and Potential-based Learning.
What makes us unique:
- Project-based Learning, community-oriented projects, on-line projects, and global partnership projects
- Committed to developing students’ individual potentials using Potential-based Learning
- Committed to Environmental Sustainability
- Student Portfolio Program replaces grades, report cards and diplomas
- Learners reach their first level of success in their potentials between the ages of 16-25
- Teaching: “Life Itself is First Priority”
Innovations: Few if any pencils, paper or printed textbooks. Chalk and blackboards are out; plasma screens and video projectors are in. Learning Advisors track students’ progress and adjust curriculum for individual students with new Project-based Learning software.
High Tech Tools: Every student gets a laptop. Students have access to digital cameras. Each student ID card (Smart Card) has an imbedded Smart Chip. The Smart Cards track attendance, open lockers, and pay for meals and accessories.
Getting in: Student Enrollment requires application approval, tuition, and parent(s) agreement to participate in the ILA adult learning program (Family Partnership Plan, among others) to support their child’s success.
Getting out: Aside from completing curriculum coursework and Portfolios, each student must also complete a final portfolio to demonstrate clear plans and goals for making future contributions to society. “If you fail to plan, then plan to fail.”
Our plans for future development: Upon reaching local capacity in a single location, we will expand the model into satellite locations across the United States. We will be providing consulting services for those who wish to open new and transitional academies locally and internationally. We are establishing global ties with like-minded educational institutions for long-term learning exchange and cooperation.
